WMO “WOW ” Project – 17th July 2017

“STRONG WOMEN EMPOWER OTHER WOMEN” HEALTHY LIFESTYLE & HEALTHCARE AS A CAREER LADIES ONLY EVENT

The World Memon Organization [Africa Chapter] Ladies Wing and Youth Wing hosted a very successful Ladies Only Event on Sunday the 17th July 2016 at the Memon Foundation Centre in Laudium.

A number of women from various Ladies Forums, Charitable Organizations and the public was drawn towards the cause of this project which is solely to empower the women in our community. We were honoured to host special guests; young girls ranging from the age of 12yrs—25yrs from the Muslim Aids Programme Orphanage, Itireleng an informal settlement and the Ihya Ulum Ud Deen In Ennerdale.

Sana Shakoor founder of WOW: “WOW” Wonder of  Women was initiated because female entrepreneurship is currently making waves on the startup scene and is becoming an           increasing force to be reckoned with, but it goes without saying that there are still miles to go in addressing the global gender gap. Women experience a unique set of challenges on their path to success mainly because of lack of capital-traditional resources of finance and inadequate knowledge to start an      enterprise.

WOW aims to connect successful business and working women with less fortunate women and young girls who lack the resources and skills to pursue opportunities.  With this effective networking process connections are made, guidance and support is offered and a woman is inspired to assist another woman to strive and achieve the future she envisions for herself and her family.

WMO would like to Mr Feizul Ayob [Chairman of the Board of Government of the World Memon Foundation Centre in Laudium] for allowing us the utilization of the facility at no costs.

YOUR SUPPORT OFFERED AT THE EVENT AND  TOWARDS THE FUTURE WOMEN EMPOWERMENT PROJECTS ARE APPRECIATED AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH YOU IN THE FUTURE

To AMKA for sponsoring the gifts bags to the young girls and an AMKA product to each of the guests as a token of our appreciation.

The event commenced with a refreshing and fun Yoga session and thereafter the main programme took place. Zafreen Ayob [Member of the WMO Ladies Wing] did an outstanding job as the MC introducing Raeesa Gutta [Member of Ladies & Youth Wing] who elaborated on the aims and objectives of the WOW      project. Thereafter, Dr Taheera Hassim [Obstetrician Gynaecologist & Member of the WMO Ladies Wing & the Islamic Medical Association of SA] captured the true essence of the programme by giving a very heartfelt and emotional talk about how she pursued her career from humble and difficult beginnings ensuring that she set goals and achieved it. She had all the guests drawn into her talk and left feeling very inspired. This followed by a dynamic address from Kareemah Maphasa; an orphan at Sultan Bahu who studied film making at AFDA and worked at ITV Networks as a News Anchor.  She Specifically directed her wise words to the young girls present and encouraged them to never doubt their abilities and to take full benefit of any opportunities presented to them as their dreams was never out of their reach and can only be acquired if they truly want it.

Zafreen ended the programme with a vote of thanks, which included the mention of our committee ladies who worked hard towards ensuring that we offered a well-organized event and to the WMO Board Of Management who unconditionally assists our endeavours and never fails to generously contribute towards its success.

The feedback was phenomenal and positive as many of the women present thoroughly enjoyed the ladies only initiative and the concept of the programme. They requested regular events of this nature and offered their support of future women empowerment programmes and courses. Honey Accessories, Shzen and Herbalife Consultants gave away a few gifts to lucky winners and start up kits to interested ladies and young girls giving them a kick start in this business. We hope that full commitment will be given to this opportunity presented and soon we will be informed of the success stories transpiring from these humble efforts. We make dua that Allah [SWT] grant this project and relationships built to grow from strength to strength for His pleasure only—AAMEEN.
