Origin of Memons
On the face of it this seems the easiest question to answer. Almost every Memon child is brought up with the story of how the Memons came to be. In the fourteenth century in Sindh, now in Pakistan, lived a Hindu community known as Lohanas. In 1432 they were converted to Islam and given the name,”Memins”. The word means ‘believers’ and this was subsequently corrupted to “Memons”.
